she lived every kind of life . . .

“She called herself an angel, and wandered the world from girlhood till death. She lived every kind of life and dreamt every kind of dream. She was wild in her wandering, a drop of free water. She believed only in her life and in her dreams. She called herself an angel, and her god was Beauty.”

returning to Ireland . . .

It is bittersweet as I pack for my return trip to Ireland. I think about grief and loss, those left behind, my mother’s ailing health and the unrest in our country.

This photograph is from a moment at Mick Nester’s automotive repair shop, nestled in Corofin. The shop is a converted cathedral and Mick is an expert Irish flutist. The artful way that Mick speaks and approaches life is a sight to behold.

It will certainly be good to see him and other friends in County Clare.  Western Ireland is a magical place which will certainly ease my heavy heart with its gentle way of doing so to the weary traveler.

if only one could leave this life slowly . . .

“It’s not that we have to quit
this life one day, but it’s how
many things we have to quit
all at once: music, laughter,
the physics of falling leaves,
automobiles, holding hands,
the scent of rain, the concept
of subway trains… if only one
could leave this life slowly!”
