thin layer of icing on a great dark birthday cake . . .
“I saw the world I had walked since my birth and I understood how fragile it was, that the reality was a thin layer of icing on a great dark birthday cake writhing with grubs and nightmares and hunger.”

especially a kiss . . .
“When
When it’s over, it’s over, and we don’t know
any of us, what happens then.
So I try not to miss anything.
I think, in my whole life, I have never missed
The full moon
or the slipper of its coming back.
Or, a kiss.
Well, yes, especially a kiss.”
~Mary Oliver
jewelry always fits . . .
“It’s not what you have on the outside that glitters in light, it’s what you have on the inside that shines in the dark.”
~Anthony Liccione
My bandmate Megatron and I accessed an abandoned Massachusetts insane asylum’s medical library for this shoot to feature her handmade jewelry and recent Saver’s clothing scores . .
a man looking in . . .
Exploring abandoned farmhouses in rural County Clare, Ireland is something I tend to do every time I return to the Emerald Isle. “Maude’s House” was no exception.
“A window—it’s more entertaining than TV. Just ask a cat looking out, or a man looking in on a life he desires.”
~J. Kintz
It’s dark because you are trying to hard . . .
“It’s dark because you are trying too hard.
Lightly child, lightly. Learn to do everything lightly.
Yes, feel lightly even though you’re feeling deeply.
Just lightly let things happen and lightly cope with them.
I was so preposterously serious in those days, such a humorless little prig.
Lightly, lightly – it’s the best advice ever given me.
When it comes to dying even. Nothing ponderous, or portentous, or emphatic.
No rhetoric, no tremolos,
no self conscious persona putting on its celebrated imitation of Christ or Little Nell.
And of course, no theology, no metaphysics.
Just the fact of dying and the fact of the clear light.
So throw away your baggage and go forward.
There are quicksands all about you, sucking at your feet,
trying to suck you down into fear and self-pity and despair.
That’s why you must walk so lightly.
Lightly my darling,
on tiptoes and no luggage,
not even a sponge bag,
completely unencumbered.”
~Aldous Huxley
the importance of baby steps . . .
“Beware of those who step in the path of your dreams. They only dream to have the ability to take half your steps.”
~A.J. Darkholme
when the kettle is cold . . .
This morning’s tea makes yesterday distant . . .
This abandoned Irish farmhouse estate discovered me while I was exploring the vanishing light of Western Ireland. Although the hearth has no long grown cold, the kettle remains, still the vessel it was meant to be.

enjoying the process . . .
“If we can just let go and trust that things will work out they way they’re supposed to, without trying to control the outcome, then we can begin to enjoy the moment more fully. The joy of the freedom it brings becomes more pleasurable than the experience itself.”
~Goldie Hawn
faces . . .
“It is the common wonder of all men, how, among so many million faces, there should be none alike.”
